Parish Council News
Meet your Parish Councillors
Wyre Piddle Parish Council invites you all to a Christmas social evening. This is an opportunity to meet your councillors and other villagers. Please join us for a glass of wine or soft drink and a mince pie at the Village Hall on Thursday 5th December between 7 and 9 pm.
Thank you’s
Remembrance
A big thank you to everyone involved in organising the remembrance event on 10th November. The display of poppies on the netting, the soldier silhouettes and the myriad of knitted poppies provided a really eye-catching back drop. The laying of the wreaths, trumpeter and the service marked the occasion in a serious and thought provoking way. The refreshments afterwards provided a fitting conclusion. Thank you to all who attended to mark their thanks and respect to our fallen heroes.
Smith’s Meadow
A huge thanks to Stuart, John and Susan for the support they gave in Smith’s Meadow on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd November. Their help with the painting, hedge trimming and weeding was invaluable and very much appreciated. The meadow is looking in good shape with the new hedge row on the right beginning to take shape, and the new gate now in place at the lower entrance. We still have a lot more work to do with the overgrown hedge on the left hand side, if you are willing to help please contact myself for more information.
Keep our Village Clean and Tidy
Our village is signed up for the Wychavon Adopt a street scheme. If you could volunteer to litter pick on your own street or any other problem area please can you get in touch with me and I can deliver you some pickers and further information. I have 10 sets altogether – one for me, so that makes 9 available for some other willing and able folk!
Dog Owners
On walking around the village the Parish Councillors and other Parishioners are still noticing a lot of dog poo being left around the pavements and grass verges. Please, please, please ensure that when your dogs do their business, you do your business and clean it up!
Car Parking
There have been a lot of parishioner complaints about cars parking on the pavements. Please refrain from doing this to make it safer for everyone using the pavements, especially people with pushchairs and young children.
South Worcestershire Development Plan Review
As mentioned previously, the SWDP is under review. The 6 week consultation period for the new 2021 plan is underway. As part of this a Preferred Options document has been produced. It sets out how the Government requirement to build 40,000 new homes across Wychavon by 2041 will be met. More than 900 sites have been put forward for potential development and assessed against a range of criteria. The preferred sites for development have been selected. To find out more visit www.swdevelopmentplan.org.
Concerns for Wyre Piddle
• Removal of the strategic gap separating us from Pershore and Pinvin leading to the possible loss of identity for our village.
• The lifting of restrictions on development boundaries likely to lead to pressure for infill developments on land that was previously just outside the development boundary of the village.
• The proposed strategic growth area both sides of the A44 between the Pinvin and Upper Moor roundabouts.
• The effect on existing infrastructure of additional housing around Wyre Piddle and of new infrastructure required to support the proposed new town on Throckmorton Airfield.
A letter from the Parish Council giving more detail about these issues and how you can make your own comments will be delivered in the near future.
