Pershore Infrastructure Improvement Scheme – Pinvin Junction

We are writing to update you about the works on the Pinvin Junction element of the Pershore Infrastructure Improvement Scheme.

As we’re sure you’re aware, work is currently suspended on site due to the impact of Covid-19. Further to recent guidance from Transport Minister, Baroness Vere, regarding the resumption of Highway maintenance and improvement schemes, work will resume in the next few weeks. All work will be carried out following the Highway Sector’s Site Operating Procedures which provide guidance on travel to work, welfare facilities, hygiene practices and other site management practices designed to control the spread of the virus.

At this time, we wanted to make you aware of a road closure in the area at the end of this month, needed for major utility diversions. Openreach and Seven Trent Water require the closure of Terrace Road between the Junction of the A4104/A44 for 100m of Terrace Road towards the Railway Station, from Saturday 23^rd until Sunday 31^st May. As with the other closures, diversions will be in place during this closure and advanced-notice signage will be deployed on site. Residents living in Terrace Road will be able to access the road and park as usual during the closure period. Pedestrian routes will also be maintained keeping pedestrians at a safe distance from the workforce.

Please note that the work programme may be subject to change and residents may be asked to park on the other side of the road during some of the days. Working for the people of our Parish
We hope everyone is keeping safe and well! We are still currently in lockdown and would like to remind you all that it is vitally important that we continue to follow the Government guidelines – Stay at home – Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home) – If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times – Wash your hands as soon as you get home – Do not meet others, even friends or family. – You can spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.

Thank You To all the residents who are helping as volunteers, either on the list, or who have already been allocated residents to support, and also to those who are looking after their neighbours. It is greatly appreciated in a time like this and fantastic to see the way everyone has come together in times of need

As we can not go ahead with the Village street party, we are hoping that you will join in as a village community in a ‘Stay at Home Street Party’.
Decorate your house, dress up in Red, White and Blue and enjoy a picnic in your front garden. You can wave and chat to your neighbours from a socially acceptable distance and maybe share some music and singing!

3pm – We would like to encourage all those taking part to undertake the ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’

at 3pm on the 8th May, from the safety of your own home, by standing up and raising a glass of refreshment of your choice and undertaking the following ‘Toast’ – “To those who gave so much, we thank you,”

7pm – Ring a bell for ‘A cry for peace’ 9pm – The Royal British Legion is calling for people to help commemorate the anniversary by joining in with a UK-wide rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’

9pm on VE day. BBC One will be featuring the singalong as part of their VE Day broadcast.

DrawString Bags For Nurses and Healthcare Workers This is a plea for material (old and unwanted cotton/polycotton,duvets, sheets, pillowcases etc.). Some of the Wyre Piddle WI are making bags to help nurses transport their uniforms home safely to help reduce the risk of contamination. The bags containing the uniforms can then be placed straight into the washing machine. If you have any surplus cotton/polycotton material we would be very grateful if you could either leave it in a bag outside of Pauline Monks house, Lyndhurst, Worcester Road opposite the Village Hall. SWDP Action plan March 2020 The proposed options for housing development put forward by the recent SWDP review will have a major effect on Wyre Piddle.
The main concerns are:

• Building on land which drains onto the flood plains of the Piddle Brook and the River Avon,

• The loss of the strategic gap between us, Pershore and Pinvin.

• The planned housing development along both sides of the A44 by pass.

• The increased strain on infrastructure during and after these developments • An imbalance in the number of new houses Wychavon is expected to accommodate in comparison to the rest of the County.
The Parish Council submitted comments about these plans at the end of the consultation period in December. The South Worcestershire Councils are now collating the responses they received and will inform us of the outcome in September. There will be a briefing for Parish Councils on 31st March to let us know if there are any developments which two councillors will attend.
There is a group of parishioners who are keen to take a more proactive stance in objecting to these proposals and they have approached the Parish Council to ask for our support. We understand also that there are a number of parishioners who feel the development of housing is necessary to accommodate the growing population and that Wychavon Council should be trusted to do what is needed.

As Parish Councillors we aim to represent your views, therefore, we need to know what they are. Please tell us your preferred action out of the three following options:

1. We support those who are keen to take a more proactive stance in objecting to the proposed options that affect us.

2. We continue to monitor the progress of the SWDP review and keep you informed, whilst seeking assurance that any housing development will take into account extra flood risk, retain our separate identity as a village, be the best possible in terms of sustainability and environmental impact and include substantial tracts of land to preserve wildlife.

3. We attend briefings and keep you informed, but trust Wychavon County Council to conduct the planned developments as sympathetically as possible.
